Jasper Mocké and Nicky Notten won the inaugural Freedom Paddle in Cape Town today.
The paddling professionals beat Durbanites Clint Cook and Tyron Maher to the finish of the 26km race. Matt Bouman, who also hails from Durban, and Phillip Smith, who stays in Cape St Francis, rounded out the podium.
Locals Mocké and Notten took control early in the race. “We managed to break away with Matt and Phillip after about 5km into the race and once we came around the back side of Robben Island, we managed to link a few runs together, which got us a nice gap,” said Mocké.
He added that he was extremely happy with the victory.
