Gauteng soon fought back as the second quarter finished with 19-all.
The third quarter ended with Western Cape in the lead by one goal (31-30).
The final quarter went into extra time and after the first seven minutes of extra time, Western Cape had a 44-42 lead.
During the final minute, Gauteng scored to take the victory with a final score of 47-46.
Gauteng Coach Jenny van Dyk said they had been preparing for the final since 2016.
“We trained at the hottest time of the day and we put the team under pressure. Decision-making under pressure is the key to winning big matches,” she said.
“When things were getting tight, I told them to settle down and make matters simple. To take the ball with both hands and to keep calm.”
