Participants set out under the full moon as they started the short, 6km stage one. They began by making their way along the beach before turning back on themselves to return to Sugarloaf campsite.
The second day of the iSimangaliso Trail Challenge gave runners their first real taste of the iSimangliso Wetland Park as they completed a 37km loop. They set off along the coastline before heading up the dunes and into the Maphelane Forest, past the Cape St. Lucia lighthouse. The final stretch took the field through jeep and single track through coastal and swamp forest.
The final stage of the iSimangaliso Trail Challenge was a 38km route from Cape Vidal to St.Lucia. Runners started at the beach at Cape Vidal and passed through areas of the park where they were guided by rangers. The bushveld gave way to beach for the final time as the route continued south to the finish.
