The Jeep Team held their own in the Warrior Series #5 Hazeldean race in Pretoria East on August 20 and 21.
The team’s fit-and-fast Black Ops Elite athletes Thomas van Tonder, Carina Marx, JJ Deysel and Joshua Masundi knew they were in for a brutal race when eyeing their rivals at the starting line.
The course presented 30 obstacles over a 20km trail, each challenging either mental or physical limits.
After fighting it out for over 90 minutes, the team’s OCR star and series leader Van Tonder succumbed to second place, a few minutes behind eventual winner Claude Eksteen, with Louis Smit in third.
Jeep Team’s JJ Deysel and Joshua Masudi took seventh and 11th places respectively.
The team’s top female OCR athlete Corina Marx put in an impressive fight against the top competitors in the country.
Marx eventually finished third, climbing two positions from Warrior Series #4 Ballito, where she placed fifth.
Hanneke Dannhauser took top spot with Trish Bahlmann in second place.
“It was truly a runner’s race. Our stamina and endurance were really pushed to the limits.
“This is an incredible series and I’m proud to compete alongside top athletes like Hanneke (Dannhauser) and Trish (Bahlmann). Dannhauser was an absolute machine today. No one was going to catch her,” said Marx.
The team will compete in the Warrior Series #6 which takes place at Kwanyoni Lodge in Nelspruit on September 24 and 25.
