Jenna Ward is eager to take the confidence she gained from achieving a silver medal in the K2 event at the Canoe Marathon World Championships last weekend into the Fish River Canoe Marathon on October 7 and 8.
Having clinched the bronze medal in the K1 U23 event at the world champs in 2014 and 2015, the Durban-based star had set her sights higher going into the clash in Germany.
Despite a brave fight, Ward finished fourth in the K1 race, but refocused her energies in the K2 event with Euro Steel team-mate Kyeta Purchase to take the runners-up spot.
They finished behind marathon legend Renáta Csay and her Hungarian partner, Alexandra Bara.
“Our K2 race at the Worlds is definitely the highlight of my career so far,” said Ward.
Back on familiar turf, the Fish is her next assignment.
Having notched two third places (2013 and 2014) and three fourths (2011, 2012, 2015) at the past five Fish events, the talented MACSquad member is eager to challenge for a place on the podium.
