An event which offers a wide variety of options, the Bestmed Wild Coast Sun MTB Classic promises to be a fun opening to the festive season when it takes place on December 9.
Organisers ASG Events have set up a programme which involves the whole family, with four distances on offer, from the elite riders to toddlers.
The race takes place at the Wild Coast Sun near Port Edward in KwaZulu-Natal and ASG Events are collaborating with Sun International to ensure a high quality offering.
The feature race will be over 40km and will cover some of the iconic trails of the region, incorporating a few challenging climbs with some exciting descents.
There is also a shorter distance of 20km, while children have a 2km option, plus a 200m stretch for toddlers.
ASG Events chief Wynand de Villiers said they were excited at becoming involved in the event.
“We want to provide various entertainment options on and off the bike,” he said. “Participants will enjoy free access to many of the facilities at the Wild Coast Sun and receive a 50 per cent discount voucher to the water park.”
Continuing their support of the Cancer Association of South Africa, he added that R10 of every entry would be donated to the national body.
ASG operations manager Darren Herbst said they wanted to offer a memorable mountain biking experience.
The 40km route, he said, had amazing views and some tough, yet manageable, terrain, including 870m of vertical ascent.
The 20km race consists of mildly technical trail, including 435m of ascent, and is rideable throughout.
Entries close on December 5.
