The Bestmed Tour of Good Hope will maintain its status as one of South Africa’s leading road stage events following a two-year deal with top cycling brand Scicon.
In a sponsorship worth R1.8-million a year, the Italian company, established in 1980, have increased their support to become official presenting sponsors of the Western Cape race, which starts on March 6 next year.
A leading global brand, Scicon have established themselves as the experts in the field of cycling equipment transportation.
“We’ve been engineering and manufacturing bike bags, cases and equipment protection since 1980,” said Scicon international sales manager Chris Pearce.
He said their objective was to provide stress-free travel for riders, with the products including lightweight bike bags and cases which were easy to pack, while providing the necessary protection.
“Our customers lead active lifestyles and we want to make it as easy as possible for them to bring their bikes with them.”
ASG International chief executive Heinrich Dannhauser said the Scicon sponsorship would enhance the international appeal of the Tour of Good Hope, which already attracts a significant contingent of overseas riders.
ASG Events chief executive Wynand de Villiers added that their focus was on establishing the Tour of Good Hope as South Africa’s national tour.
“Even though we have achieved this, we remain committed to increase the value offering and rider experience every year,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have partners such as Scicon, Bestmed and the City of Drakenstein who share our vision.”
De Villiers said riders would benefit by receiving customised Scicon racing bags with a retail value of more than R1 600 apiece.
