Eric Ngubane and Tracy Zunckel won the Golden Gate Challenge which took place at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park from October 20 to 23.
Ngubane took the series in a time of 6:30:04 followed by Nomore Mandivengerei in 6:37:58 with the third spot taken by Solicitor Manduwa in 6:56:21.
“I’ve run many races and I don’t remember a day when I came second. There’s no other option, if you train hard, you get the results,” said Ngubane.
The ladies race was no different as Zunckel won it in a time of 8:31:10. Second position was taken by newcomer Nonsikelelo Mbambo in 8:57:05 and third spot went to Carine Gagiano in 8:57:25.
The conditions on day one (27km) were windy and cool but agreeable for the runners. There were some slippery parts due to the torrential downpour experienced the night before.
Day two (29km) was no different and runners spotted various game en route including wildebeest, blesbok and antelope.
Day three (17km) was short and quick and sealed off with a refreshing champagne breakfast.
