Springbok team named for second Argentina test

August 24, 2016 by Coetzee Gouws

The Springbok team shows one change for the second Rugby Championship test against Argentina in Salta on Saturday, with prop Vincent Koch replacing the injured Julian Redelinghuys.

SA RugbyKoch, who has three caps to his name, comes in after Redelinghuys was ruled out of action with a hamstring injury he sustained in Saturday’s match in Nelspruit.

Lourens Adriaanse comes in on the bench as one of the two replacement props for what could be his second Springbok cap.

Also included in the replacements is the experienced Morné Steyn, who will give the team an extra kicking option. He returns in place of Juan de Jongh.

The rest of the Springbok line-up remains unchanged from the one that defeated the Pumas at the Mbombela Stadium.

In keeping the changes to a minimum, Springbok coach Allister Coetzee has opted for continuity against a Pumas side that will be lifted by their passionate home support.

“Vincent did very well when he came on as a replacement for Julian in Nelspruit, while we believe it would be good to give Lourens an opportunity on the bench,” said Coetzee.

In playing his 80th Test, Tendai Mtawarira will equal Os du Randt’s record as the most-capped prop for South Africa.

The Springbok team to face Argentina in Salta is: 15 Johan Goosen, 14 Ruan Combrinck, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Bryan Habana, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Faf de Klerk, 8 Warren Whiteley, 7 Oupa Mohoje, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Lood de Jager, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Vincent Koch, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Tendai Mtawarira

Replacements: 16 Bongi Mbonambi, 17 Steven Kitshoff, 18 Lourens Adriaanse, 19 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 20 Jaco Kriel, 21 Rudy Paige, 22 Morné Steyn, 23 Jesse Kriel.
