UWC cemented their lead in this year’s Varsity Football competition after a 2-1 win against VUT in Cape Town on Monday night.
After four rounds, the Western Cape institution is now three points clear at the top of the log and the only team to remain unbeaten in this year’s tournament.
Two-time champions UP-Tuks beat minnows WSU 1-0 in Mthatha, with defender Lawrence Ntswane’s scoring the decisive goal in the second half to earn three points and keep his side second in the standings.
Wits suffered their first home defeat of this year’s campaign, with a 2-0 loss to TUT. The Johannesburg-based university squandered a number of scoring opportunities in what proved to be a tense encounter. The win puts TUT third overall.
The final game of the fourth round will see bottom-of-the-log NMMU Madibaz face off against NWU in Potchefstroom on Thursday evening.
